The ultimate fowl forum is a social board for poultry breeders and enthusiasts. We discuss all aspects of raising chickens including everything from general care, to treating diseases. All breeds of fowl are open for discussion from heritage breeds, to the rarest breeds of fowl. We have a photo gallery, a monthly photo contest, where you can enter pictures of your birds, with a chance to win a ribbon, a Wikipedia database that has detailed information about breed histories, health issues, and general care methods, and we also have a chat box that is integrated into the forum, so you can chit chat while browsing. You will find some of the most experienced poultry breeders from around the world here to help answer your questions. Whether you are a beginner with just a few laying chickens, or a long time breeder of rare breeds of gamefowl, you will fit in on our site. Come on over and check us out!

Hello
I’ve just registered to say your site is very useful and nicely done!
Thank you very much for your work.

Sorry for offtopic.
Hi
Advice wanted
We were at our local market the other day looking at hens to buy. We noticed that after a woman had picked three ready-to-lay hens the vendor checked their backsides before handing them over. Can you tell me why he did this? They were hens so it wasn’t to sex them. We are buying some hens next week and we want to know if we should be checking their backsides for something!
Incidentally, we live in France, so maybe it’s just a French thing!
One other thing, we can only buy red, black or white. It seems impossible here to find named breeds.

I am sure they were looking for mites. When chickens have them, they nest near the vent area. You can read a little more about mites on our Poultry Wikipedia, or come on over to our forum where we can chat, or you can post questions! Ultimate Fowl Forum
